Brian's Vision for The
Brook:
In His time
here on earth, Jesus talked about the Kingdom of God more
than anything else. He sent out His disciples to go and
announce that "the Kingdom of God is near you now". He told
the masses, "I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of
God in other places, too, because that is why I was sent."
Christ made it very clear that when we choose to follow Him
- when the Holy Spirit takes up residence in our lives -
that the Kingdom of God is HERE! It is alive in us! So as
Christ-followers our calling is to "Bring the Kingdom"
everywhere we go - into our neighborhoods, our schools, our
workplaces...everywhere!
Throughout
the last generations the church has taken on a "spot light"
mentality - an idea that if we turn on the lights, people
will show up. Christ doesn't call us to operate like a minor
emergency clinic, waiting for the wounded to waltz in. He
calls us to "Go" - to seek out those who are in desperate
need of Him. He made it plainly clear that He came "to call
sinners, not those who think they are already good enough."
And in talking about HOW He chose to do that He said "I have
come to seek and to save those who are lost."
Jesus went looking for those who were in need of Him.
This is our
calling as the Church. This is who we desire to be at The
Brook. A people who are stepping into our community with
eyes wide open to those in need of Christ. A people with
hurts, wounds, and scars that have been healed and touched
by the One who brings life and hope and peace. A people who
are so overwhelmed with gratitude that the King of Kings has
chosen to dine with us and call us His own that we have no
greater desire than to "Bring His Kingdom" with us
everywhere we go. Everywhere!
My prayer
is that The Brook will be a life-changing community of faith
where people discover that their story is part of the
GREATER story - HIS story! When we understand and embrace
that, we begin to live lives that count for eternity. That
is why we're here!
