TBS Beach Camp

May 19, 2020

As you know, this week our team would normally be preparing for the biggest week of the year for our student ministry, TBS Beach Camp. Words cannot fully describe the impact this week has on our ministry and especially our students. It truly is a week that I strongly believe every student needs to be a part of due to the fellowship, community crazy games, and worship that cannot be replicated anywhere else. With that in mind, we tried to wait until the last possible minute to make our final decision as to whether or not camp would go on as planned. We truly desired TBS Beach Camp to bring some normalcy back to your student’s life in a time that is filled with so much uncertainty. Unfortunately, I am sad to say that after much prayer, thinking, and counsel with our pastors and staff, the decision has been made to cancel TBS Beach Camp. There were several reasons that led us to make this difficult decision. The main one being that we did not get the news we were hoping for last Friday when the Governor of Florida announced that his state is still in Phase 1, which will not allow groups over 10 to gather. We looked at different venues, including those outside of the state of Florida, but for one reason or another they were not viable options. Whether you paid a deposit or in full, we will start issuing a complete refund. Know that any frustration or sadness you and your student have over this decision, we feel it with you. But we also know the Lord is in control. He is going to bring something great out of this trial and season!

As of now, Beach Camp will be back May 31 - June 4, 2021, so go ahead and mark your calendars. As for the rest of this summer, please know that our goal is to walk you and your student(s) back into the rhythms of community, fellowship, and corporate worship. We know many of you are not quite ready to simply "toss your kid into the deep end of the pool!" We understand. Over the next weeks we will be providing opportunities for all our students to step back into these rhythms as you and your family are ready. That said, we encourage you to prayerfully take these steps.

I am so grateful to lead your students, to serve alongside our Family Ministry team, and to have 2 incredible interns (Sarah MacKenzie & Andrew McCoy) working with your students this summer. We are excited for the days ahead! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing your student this summer as we worship, grow, and serve together!
