Parents, we enjoyed getting to spend time with you and your upcoming 6th grader earlier this month at Immersion Night. We hope that it accomplished its purpose in immersing you and your student in what it looks like to be apart of our student ministry. We also hope that your student left excited about joining us this summer. Speaking of the summer, if you recall from our time together, your student can officially move up into our student ministry starting with our Sixers Retreat, June 10-11. (If you have children in other grades, they will still move up at the beginning of August.) This retreat, which takes place right here at The Brook, is specifically tailored for our upcoming middle school students.
WHAT WILL WE BE LEARNING AT THE SIXERS RETREAT?
Students will get a taste of being apart of a small group led by a few of our student leaders. During these small group times we want to help your student see that God created them to be Weird. As Christ followers they are called to be different than the world and go against the flow of culture. After all, Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it." Let's be honest, blending in with the world is a good sign we are on the wrong road. As Christ followers we should look different than the rest of the world. We should look weird in how we spend our time and the relationships that we have. This is what we hope your student sees as they get ready for Middle School.
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?
Outside of small groups, we are going to have a ton of fun during our time together as we head to Stars and Strikes, Altitude, play Secret Church at The Brook, roast s'mores, and just fellowship with one another.
WHERE WILL MY STUDENT BE SLEEPING?
Students will be staying in our classrooms in The Refinery (where Immersion Night was held). One side of the hallway will be for our girls and the other for the boys. Along with our student leaders, we will have adult leaders in the classrooms. We will also black out all windows, including the ones on the door to provide privacy. Students will need to bring their own sleeping bag or air mattress and sheets.
WILL THERE BE AN ITINERARY AND WHAT TO BRING LIST FOR THE WEEKEND?
Yes, we will send this out closer to the event.
WHAT IS THE COST?
The cost for the Sixers Retreat is $75, which covers all your student's material, food, fun, and t-shirt. If cost is an issue, please let Chip know, as we have scholarships available.
HOW DO I REGISTER MY STUDENT?
You can register now HERE. The last day to sign-up will be Monday, May 30!
We look forward to your student joining us for this awesome weekend. It is always one of our favorite weekends of the summer! If you have any questions, please reach out to Chip Woosley or Justin Steiner.
